San Diego, California
We are beginning a new partnership this summer with Stephen Phelan and a local church in the San Diego area called Harbor Church Mid-City (http://www.harbormidcity.org). With 80 different languages spoken just in their zip code, they are truly discipling the nations right here in the U.S.
A team of families will go primarily to serve with their VBS outreach efforts in the inner city. Our team will also partner with Harbor in their ministry to UN refugees who have collected in the area from Africa, Asia, and the Pacific.
We hope that this is the beginning of long relationship with Harbor Church Mid City. Please pray with us as we embark on this new adventure.
Haiti
University Christian Fellowship, our college ministry, began serving in Haiti last summer, but the earthquake in January heightened our connections. This summer UCF will again send a team to serve with the Canaan Orphanage (http://www.canaanorphanage.org) which houses a children’s home, school, medical clinic, nutrition program, and now a refugee camp.
Our team will join the efforts at Canaan and support the staff in their various ministries. Team members will fluctuate between medical clinics, teaching classes, construction projects, and games with kids to serve the Canaan community however needed.
Going forward, we may have other trips to Haiti in connection with one of our local mission partners, MedMission International. MedMission will be helping a church/orphanage/refugee camp/medical clinic on the northern coast to serve its community for the sake of the Gospel. We hope to join in the effort in the coming months.
Hungary
We partner with Andras Kazar and the Paulus Movement ministry in Diosd, Hungary (suburb of Budapest). The Paulus Movement is a church planting movement that currently includes a local church (Paulus Evangelical Fellowship), a community center, and various community outreach projects. Over the past few years we have sent teams to serve during their annual church retreat and to help provide English Camps as an outreach for children and adults.
Last year we sent our first youth team to help host “Converse”, a youth camp using the English language and sports as tools for outreach. It was such a success that intend to continue this effort going forward.
We hope to continue our partnership with the Paulus Movement, sending even more teams and serving with their staff to minister to the people of Diosd area.
Mexico
We partner with the Hands of Luke ministry (http://www.handsofluke.com) in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Hands of Luke is directed by Dr. Marco Samaniego and has a children's home, medical clinic, nutritional centers, food and clothing ministries, and is constructing homes in the poorest areas of Juarez. They are truly doing ministry to the "least of these."
In the past we sent regular summer teams to participate in the ongoing construction projects in the Colonias and to spend time investing in the lives of kids at the Children's Home. We also sent teams to help with the annual Thanksgiving Outreach to the Poor, which serves meals to over 20,000 people in need.
Due to the current situation in Ciudad Juarez, we have suspended trips to this area. Please continue to pray for our partners who are serving amidst the tensions.
Peru
We partner with John and Minori Lucas and the ministries of the South American Mission in Pucallpa, Peru. The Lucases have invested their lives over the last 15 years in the local people and churches of Pucallpa, and the Shipibo tribes along the Amazon River basin. During this time they also helped establish a Bible training center for tribal indians to be equipped and return to minister to their tribes.
We have been sending teams the past few summers to serve with the Lucases and their missionary network. We mostly do this by hosting a basketball camp in partnership with two local churches - Divino Redentor and Mil Palmeras. outreach Indian Bible Training Center, and river ministries as needed. We also help out with various projects around the mission base and spend time encouraging the missionary families in their ongoing efforts.
